ARTISTS STATEMENT

Kate MacDonagh is an abstract artist who’s conceptualizations are suggested rather than defined. She explores dualities of light and dark, scale and ephemerality, stillness and movement, the spectral and the material.

Since her time spent on artist residencies in Japan (2015, 2017) Kate has focused mainly on water-based, Japanese woodblock printing (Mokuhanga) and water colour painting.

The painterly qualities and diverse possibilities of Mokuhanga greatly appeals to her as a way of working in an environmentally way.

The sensuous, meditative dialogue with the materials is an essential element of both the process and the outcome.
